THE TEENY TINY ROAR of a baked bean lion by Andrea Innocent

I had got up late one night to get a glass of water and was standing bleary eyed in my
kitchen with glass in hand when I heard a strange sound..."Rawr!".
I stopped drinking and stood still, my eyes flicking back and forth while I strained to listen.
"Rawr"... there it was again! "Rawr"...and again!
A teeny tiny 'roaring' sound! It almost sounded like it was on a radio.. or very far away.
Flicking on the porch light I peeked under the blind and scanned the backyard for
creatures.
Nothing. Just complete stillness, not even the un-mowed savanna that was my lawn
was moving.
'Rawr!'... it was coming from the cuboard! I swung open the doors.
Nothing. Just the usual assortment of condiments and tins.
'Rawr!' This time I noticed it... a small tin of baked beans had jumped at the roar.
'Rawr' there it went again!
I ran to the drawer, grabbed the can opener and went to work on the lid of the can. As
soon as it was open out sprung a bean shaped lion. It began hissing and roaring and pacing
back and forth in front of me.
I stood bug-eyed, mouth open, staring at the little creature. I figured he must be hungry, what with living in
that can for so long, but what would a baked bean lion eat?
I tried some slices of ham but he just turned up his nose, then cheese.. nup no dice.
That's when it clicked... I grabbed some bread popped it in the toaster and waited for it
to jump out. As soon as it was ready I smothered it with butter.... you should have seen
him run!
Up jumped the baked bean lion onto the bread rolling on his back, purring and and licking the butter.
That's what a baked bean lion eats... toast and butter of course!
I haven't named my lion yet so would love to get some suggestions.
